Magnetic or overhead drive stirrer: what to choose
Magnetic or overhead drive stirrer: what to choose

A stirrer is one of the basic devices in a chemical and technological laboratory, but the choice of its type depends on the viscosity of the medium, volume, temperature and nature of the process. A magnetic stirrer is convenient for standard solutions and relatively simple tasks. Top drive is better suited for heavier environments and higher load processes.

If the laboratory works with liquid solutions, typical reactions and small volumes, a magnetic stirrer is often a fairly convenient solution. When it comes to thick mixtures, heavier loads or reaction processes, an overhead drive system usually gives better results.

When choosing, it is important to evaluate not only the rotation speed, but also stability, heating, ease of control and compatibility with your laboratory glassware. A well-selected stirrer makes the process more stable and reduces the risk of errors in sample preparation.

This is exactly the case when a device seems simple, but in real work it greatly affects the quality of the entire laboratory procedure.
